Howter Automation Ltd was founded by Alex Carter and Tom Howard, bringing together years of hands-on experience across gate automation, access control, electrical systems and security installations.

We work with homeowners, schools, commercial premises, industrial sites and property management companies, providing dependable solutions tailored to each customer and property. From the first conversation through to installation, servicing and ongoing maintenance, our focus is on honest advice, quality workmanship, safety and reliability.

We believe customers should fully understand the work being carried out, why it is needed and what it will cost. That is why we aim to provide straightforward recommendations and transparent pricing, without unnecessary complications or pressure.

Our Experience

Alex Carter began his career in the gate automation industry in 2014, joining CAME in a technical support role. Through his technical knowledge and experience, he progressed to leading the technical team, becoming a key point of contact for installers and working closely with manufacturers in Italy.

This gave Alex extensive knowledge of gate automation systems, fault diagnosis, safety equipment and system design, as well as a strong understanding of what separates a reliable installation from one that may cause problems later. In 2020, Alex moved into field installation work with a leading Midlands-based gate automation company, allowing him to combine his technical background with practical, hands-on installation experience.

Tom Howard comes from a strong electrical background. After qualifying as an electrician, he worked with several established installation companies, including spending a significant part of his career at Stanguard.

Throughout his career, Tom gained extensive experience across domestic, commercial and industrial electrical installations, alongside alarms, fire systems, access control, security systems and gate automation. He later joined the same Midlands-based gate automation company as Alex, where the two first met and began working together.

After working closely together on numerous installations, repairs and service calls, it quickly became clear that Alex and Tom shared the same approach to their work: do the job properly, put safety first, communicate honestly with the customer and never compromise on quality.

Their complementary experience and shared standards naturally led to the creation of Howter Automation Ltd.
